Alice Tait

Alice Tait, born 23rd May 1986, is a former Australian Swimmer, who represented team Australia over a 10-year period from 2002 – 2012. Her first international competition was the 2002 Manchester Commonwealth Games, where at 16 years of age, she won gold along side Jodie Henry, Sarah Ryan and Petria Thomas in the 4 x 100m Freestyle Relay. It was this event that jump-started a very successful career, highlighted by claiming an Olympic Gold Medal in 2004.

Alice has over 20 medals from international competition, and is the winner of the ‘Grand-Slam’ of International events; Alice is a Pan Pacific, Commonwealth, World and Olympic Champion. She is a 3 time World Record Holder, broke Commonwealth Records in the 50m Freestyle and 200m IM disciplines, and was just as renowned for her success in the pool as her leadership out of it, where she remains on the executive committee for the Australian Swimmers Association.

Alice’s swimming success provided her with the opportunity to become the public spokesperson for Australian Charities. She is currently an ambassador for the Breast Surgeons Foundation and the 2014 Mothers Day Classic. Upon retirement from the sport, Alice initiated a state-wide program with Swimming Queensland that saw her and other high profile female swimmers visit girls in schools and clubs to speak of the uprising body image and self esteem issues present in society today. She has also recently graduated from Griffith University, completing a Bachelor of Nursing, and currently works as a theatre nurse at The Mater Children’s Hospital.
