Welcome to Pacific Sports Management (PSM) the new cutting edge management service that provides all the athletes needs under the one roof. PSM formally known as Orriginal Pro Sports was created by two brothers Gavin and Chris Orr in the year 2000. After retiring from the game they saw a need to create a more proactive and service orientate management company, which offer a full range of services under the one roof. At PSM athletes are offered services such as Management / Professional Contract Negotiations / Accounting / Marketing & Sponsorship / Financial Planning / Career Planning.
Coming from sporting backgrounds Directors Gavin and Chris were fortunate enough to have reached the professional ranks of the NRL. It is through their personal experience that they are able to relate and truly appreciate the different needs of today's professional athletes. It is also through their individual journeys to reach the professional level of sport that they are able to assist and advise on numerous issues that the younger athletes of today will face and have to over come to achieve their goal of playing within the professional ranks of the NRL.
The team within PSM pride themselves in assisting their athletes succeed both on and off the sporting field. We encourage all of our young athletes to skill themselves either through apprenticeships, traineeships or studies to ensure that regardless of how far they go with their sporting career they are assured of a future beyond the sporting field.
PSM will support them and guide them develop their sporting careers and once it is all over, continue to have a relationship with them long after the final whistle has blown. "Executive Team" Gavin Orr, Director Gavin set about changing the face of Sports Management with his Brother and business partner Chris Orr in 1999, in 1999 Gavin resigned from the Reebok Corporation to start his own sports Management Company built from scratch. In the early days of Gavin being a player himself felt the industry of Sports Management lacked with people that could relate and identify the issues he had as a young player, issues like employment, homesickness, accommodation and a manager that wouldn’t show him the time of day. So ORRIGINAL PRO SPORTS was born in 1999, later becoming PACIFIC SPORTS MANAGEMENT in 2004, the name change came about due to the ever increasing Pacific Islanders Gavin was signing to the company. Gavin saw back then in 1999 that the Pacific Islander player was becoming a better player and would soon become a player of great ability, his father inlaw ( Bob Lanigan )at the time was the head trainer at the Auckland Warriors and encouraged him to look further into these players abilities. In that year he signed Sione Faumuina- Warrior/ Paul Whatuira -Tigers / James Stosic-Sharks / Ben Vaeau-Broncos / amongst others in Australia like Greg Bird / Ian Hindmarsh / Trent Waterhouse / who at the time weren’t house hold names. As a Director Gavin’s main role is the identification of players coming into the company, as well as the day to day welfares issues of the player the company represents. Gavin has come through similar endeavors that most kids face to day, coming from a country town of Dubbo ( later Mudgee) at 17yrs down to the Cronulla Sharks was at the time a very daunting experience for him at 17, but it was that experience as well as the issues of homesickness and loneliness that has given Gavin a better insight to what’ today’s players require from their sports agent. Gavin had a story printed on him this year that featured The MAN WHO SIGNED Sonny Bill Williams, this article was centre on how Gavin secured the services of one of the Biggest names in the game today while at the same time stating the difficult periods of what he went through. On the SBW issue he simply stated he had a better understanding of what the athlete was going to go through, and that most of his competitors, who at that stage had never played the game. It also went onto document how he sold his house to fund the business and the support he received from his wife Dearne and children Kalarni and Tyla-Belle. Gavin has also done the hours in the game both as a player for the Cronulla Sharks 1987-90 and the Roosters 1991-94 and now as a sports manager, is well and truly able to give advice on the aspects of sports management and what it takes to become an NRL player today. Chris Orr, Director Chris has over ten (10) years experience in the sports marketing and management industry through working in various professional sporting organisations within Australia and the UK before establishing his own sports management company. Over the past five (5) years he has continue to developed his professional skills in contract negotiations / athlete management / sports marketing and event management. After fulfilling a seven (7) year career in the professional ranks of rugby league (Cronulla Sharks Gold Coast Chargers and Super League Giants), he completed his education within the sport and business fields to commence a career in the sports management industry. It is through his personal experience of working his way up the ranks of professional rugby league that provides a distinct advantage with him assisting athletes under his management company achieve their goals of becoming the very best they can be in their chosen sport. Chris is happily married to wife Tracey, with his beautiful son name Ky and new born baby daughter Sienna. He believes in family and was fortunate enough to have had a great upbringing in the country with his three (3) brothers and parents. The most important thing to remember is that Chris was a player first and a sports agent second, which means the player he represents truly means more to him then the dollar the athlete earns him. Comment: "The thing I enjoy most about the sports management industry is witnessing and assisting young men and women fulfil their dreams of becoming a professional athlete. There are many obstacles that young athletes must face and overcome to succeed. If I feel that through the athlete having an involvement with our company that they achieved their dream then I gain tremendous personal satisfaction." Finally it has been a long but rewarding journey in establishing Pacific Sports Management and I could not have done it without the support of my family which i would like to thank them for all their love and support.
